In 2023, Curate needed a set of around 40+ icons to be designed in three different styles to make sure every restaurant that signs up has a lot of options to choose from. I designed two of these styles, while we let AI do the job on the third one.
Below are some of these icons.
First one was a stroke styles with 1.5px monoline strokes designed on a 48x48 grid and the other style had a more hand-drawn feel to it.
Style #1 - Stroke
All strokes on these icons are 1.5 px on 64x64 size. Following edges that are rounded, they give off a very welcoming vibe. Details of the icons depend on the cuisines. Example: American icons take a very slight imperfect shape with their strokes, Japanese ones are very straight/more edgier just like their cuisine.Tiny little details have been added to every cuisine that make it feel like they belong there, ex: little fish hint in the sandwich of the Sea Food. Circle was added for an affordance so the users can tell they’re clickable.
Style #2 - Flat Hand Drawn
These give off a very hand drawn vibe, and are supposed to feel imperfect, while feeling cohesive with the usage of colours. Highlights/Shadows are avoided as much as possible, but used at places where it felt necessary. Details have been added to each cuisine so they feel part of it.
Style #3 - Filled in Blob
These were created using AI, and are filled in styles that are supported with a backgorund blob or square. They make the category image look more obvious, and can be used with a texture or any color
